I have a recipe I wish to make, it calls for tallow. Can I swap it for palm oil? What else can I use besides palm oil? It has coconut & other veg oils in it.

I wish I had an answer for you! I guess in theory you could swap it for pretty much anything, it's just a matter of finding something with similar properties and I don't really know what tallow is like.

Palm is the best vegetarian option imo if that is what you are going for. You can buy tallow from your supermarket's cold section - called Supafry in the red wrapper.

If you swap/substitute any oil in a soap recipe please make sure you run your new recipe through a lye calculator to get the correct amount of NaOH you will need. I have used sustainable palm oil in place of tallow in soap and I really love it. HTH Smile
